Aiza Seguerra releases new album Aiza: Live!

Mark Angelo Ching

Acoustic singer Aiza Seguerra is all set to conquer the Pinoy music charts once again with the recent release of her new album Aiza: Live!

Far from being an award-winning child actress in the late 80's to the 90's, Aiza made a major career turn when she burst into the showbiz industry in 2001 as an acoustic singer. The phenomenal single she recorded then, titled "Pagdating ng Panahon," is still a part of radio playlists even up to now.

Her other hits include "Pakisabi na Lang," "Para Lang Sa'yo," "How Did You Know," "Akala Mo," and "Palagay Ko Mahal Kita."

Now an established acoustic singer, Aiza regularly performs in ABS-CBN's Sunday musical variety show ASAP '09, as a part of the Sessionistas segment. As a freelancer, she also guests in several TV shows both in GMA-7 and ABS-CBN.

NEW ALBUM. The new album Aiza: Live! is the acoustic singer's first foray into a live recording session. Aiza effectively follows the live album route of her fellow Sessionistas Nina, who released the successful Nina Live! in 2005, and MYMP, who released MYMP Live at the Music Museum a year later.

Aiza: Live! contains two CDs. The first one has 15 acoustic tracks, and the second contains live footage of the recording session.

According to the singer, the new album was conceptualized by her current band.

"The songs are usually mga most requested songs sa gigs namin kaya nabuo yung konsepto na yan. Kaya sila rin yung sinama kong banda kasi sila ng kasama ko lagi every gig," Aiza explained.

Aiza's band, tagged as the "Pogi Band," is composed of Mike Villegas (musical director/guitar), Ria Osorio (keyboards), Angelo Villegas (bass), Arnaldo Casinto (percussions), Jonathan Urbano (violin), and Ronnie Badilla (saxophone/harmonica).

In the album launch held in Mugen Bar in Metrowalk, Pasig City last Monday, August 10, Aiza performed a sampler of the album to the delight of the entertainment press. Some of the songs that she sang were the Michael Jackson hit "Man in the Mirror," rock band Queen's "Crazy Little Thing Called Love," Mike Villegas' "Bilanggo," The Corrs' "Runaway," Kim Carnes' "Bette Davis Eyes," and the Erasrheads eternal hits "Magasin" and "Huling El Bimbo."

She also performed the album's carrier single "Anything For You," a Gloria Estefan original, and her own composition "Tanging Ikaw."

Aiza: Live!, produced by Star Records, is now available in major record bars nationwide.

Aiza

Aiza Seguerra (born 17 September 1983) is a Filipino actress, singer and guitarist. She traces her roots from Calauag, Quezon.

Aiza started out as a contestant in Eat Bulaga!'s Little Miss Philippines 1987 and later a child star. After a few years of acting and a string of movies under her belt, her appeal as a child star lessened. She later made a comeback with her single, Pagdating ng Panahon (When the Time Comes). She is openly lesbian.[1]

Aiza won the The Singing Bee on July 8, 2008[2] after Rachel Alejandro gave up her throne as defending champion due to other engagements. She defeated her co-contestant singer Bituin Escalante. Seguerra won P 1,040,000 for a second time on July 10, raising her total winnings now to P 2,080,000[3]. Seguerra's new 10-track album features revivals of old hits - "Open Arms," "Time After Time," "Somewhere Over The Rainbow," "At Last," "Vincent," "Smooth Operator," "Home," "Journey," and "Longer." Aiza had also performed in Singapore for the Singapore Repertory Theatre presentation of the stage play "Avenue Q."
